Leslie Lawrence Durrenberger was born June 8, 1931 in Beaumont Tx to Robert and Stasie Durrenberger and went home to his Lord and Savior on June 6,2024 just 2 days shy of his 93rd birthday. Leslie was a devoted husband, dad, papaw, brother, uncle and friend. Leslie served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean conflict, he served on the USS Tortuga as a machinist mate 2nd class.
He met the love of his life, Joyce Ann Polk on a double date and later married on March 11, 1954. Lawrence, as he was known to family moved to New Caney in 1958 where he built a home, started a family and opened Leslie’s Feed and Hardware all while working a full time job at Continental Can Company in Houston. He retired from Continental Can Company after 30 years but certainly did not retire. He continued operating the feed store and eventually helped out at A-OK Auto Sales doing whatever he could to help.
As a younger man Lawrence loved to hunt, and took his sons on many hunting trips for squirrel, rabbit, deer and ducks. His first love was saltwater fishing but freshwater was a great second! After retirement he purchased a house on Lake Livingston, where he spent where he spent many a day fishing. Daddy was known as the fish whisperer and was happiest when he was on the water.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years and 10 months Joyce Ann Polk Durrenberger, parents Robert L Durrenberger and Stasie T Durrenberger and brother Robert L Durrenberger Jr. He is survived by his 5 children Leslie W and wife Donna, Vicki Davis and husband Jack, Dennis and wife Debbie, Tammy Hall and husband Rick, Jerry and wife Janet. Sister Ruby Flowers and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
A visitation for Leslie will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A funeral service will occur Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 10:30 AM, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. A committal service will occur Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Fwy, Houston, Texas 77039.
Serving as pallbearers are Jeremy Durrenberger, Jeffery Durrenberger, Taylor Durrenberger, Wade Durrenberger, William Durrenberger, Joseph Senn, Shane Senn, Andrew Senn and Anthony Durrenberger.
