

Dr. Leslie Edwin Whitlock, age 84, passed away on Monday April 24, 2017 in Houston, Texas. He was born on July 24, 1932 to Leslie D. Whitlock and Thelma Sharpe in St. Louis, Missouri. Leslie was the eldest of three siblings. Obtaining his foundational education in St. Louis, he excelled and graduated as the valedictorian of the Sumner High School class of 1950. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Louis University and went on to serve his country as a medical service specialist in the United States Air Force from 1954 - 1958. Upon discharge from military service, he pursued a medical degree from the Howard University Medical School and graduated in 1962. He completed his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Homer G. Phillips Hospital in St. Louis, where he served as chief resident. While completing his residency, he met and fell in love with nursing student, Alice Branson. In 1963, the two were joined in holy matrimony, and to this union, they were blessed with three children.
In 1968, Dr. Whitlock established his medical practice in Houston, Texas. During his medical career, he was known for his compassionate dedication to his patients and for the appreciation he showed to the staff at St. Joseph’s hospital and the Riverside General Hospital. Leslie was also a faithful and active member of St. Vincent’s de Paul Catholic church for many years. In line with his charitable spirit, Leslie was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council 10390 where he achieved a level of Fourth Degree Knight.
Leslie had a passion for knowledge and a spirit of excellence which he instilled in his children. A man of many interests, Leslie enjoyed and appreciated photography, classical music, opera, and jazz. He was a loving and dedicated husband and father.
Leslie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 38 years, Alice, his parents Leslie Whitlock and Thelma Sharpe, and his sister Betty Jean. He leaves to cherish his memory, his faith, and his exemplary life of service his son Michael and wife Kathie of Houston; daughter Michele of Dallas; son Anthony and wife Kim of Round Rock; granddaughters - Lauryn, Kennedy, and Michelle; Mother-in-Law, Willie Branson; brother James (Jimmy) Whitlock and family of Boulder City, Nevada; as well as many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.
