Known to many as Gene, he was cherished for the quiet strength of his presence and the sincere care he extended to family, friends, and community alike. Gene’s devotion was most evident in the causes he held close. He was a long-time, tireless activist passionately committed to voting rights, civil rights, religious rights, including freedom of and freedom from religion, and many civic efforts that reflected his belief in dignity and fairness for all.
Gene’s faith and community ties were also central to his life. He was a founding member of Covenant Baptist Church, helping to build a spiritual home grounded in commitment and shared responsibility. In every setting, his kind-hearted nature showed through in the way he listened, encouraged, and stood with others.
A retired stockbroker, Gene remained deeply engaged with the world of investing. He loved researching the latest stock trends, with particular interest in technology stocks, and he offered guidance with the same steady clarity that characterized his life: research a company thoroughly, and if you plan to invest, do so with patience and a long-term view rather than chasing quick returns.
He also took genuine pleasure in the simple joys that made life rich. Gene loved Mexican food, and his favorite restaurant was Teotihuacan; an enduring favorite that reflected his appreciation for good meals and familiar places.
