

Lewis William Emerich, 86 , passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at his home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Vernell Emerich, son Charles Emerich, daughter Pam Whitmer and husband Dennis Whitmer, grand daughters Angela Whitmer, Amy Cole, Andrea Deane and her husband Michael Deane, great grand children Jacy Cole, Ashley Ramsey, Megan Deane, John Michael Deane, Laura Mackey and Ryan Lewis.
He attended High School and College Prep at Georgia Military College, Milledgeville, Georgia, Diploma 1943. Graduate of University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Government and Political Science, 1949. One year University of Houston law School 1949 and one year at South Texas College of Law in 1950.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, 1st Marine Air Wing 4th Air Warning Squadron. He was recalled during Korean Conflict, 1st Marine Division, 11th Regiment.
He was active Member of the American Legion and was a member of Craig Post 499, Galena Park, Texas In 1963 and 1964 he served as 8th District Commander. He was National Vice Commander 1967, Commander, State of Texas, 1965-66, President, Texas American Legion Press Association, 1968-69 and was President, of American Legion National Convention held in Houston, September 1971. Lewis was a member of the Slippery Rock Boosters Club International of Houston, Texas for many years.
