

Dr. Lillian Joyce Reese-Nickerson was born on November 7, 1918 in Lufkin, Texas. She was the second of nine children born to Reeder J and Lucy Reese. At a very young age they relocated to Hunington and Broddus, Texas. They remained there for a number of years until Coldspring, Texas became their home.
It was in this town that she met the love of her life, Cornell Nickerson. They were united in holy matrimony on June 15, 1934. To this union God blessed them with three children (Lois, Agnes, Cornell “Nick” Jr.). In the year of 1942 the family moved to Houston, Texas. Lillian remained a faithful, loving wife, for 65 years, until the Lord called home Cornell Nickerson in 1999.
Lillian received her formal education in the public schools in Coldspring, Texas. She continued her education by attending Espanola’s Beauty College. She was so intrigued with cosmetology that she perused and received her doctorate degree in cosmetology.
Dr. Nickerson traveled extensively throughout the United States attending local, state and national conventions keeping abreast of new hair technologies. She was a well-known cosmetologist throughout the state of Texas. She was an active and lifetime member of City Wide Beauticians, serving in various offices and chairperson for many activities. Dr. Nickerson was the founder of the “Fashionettes.” She was also an active member of Theta Nu Sigma National Sorority, where she served as Basileus for many years. Lillian received countless outstanding awards for her great accomplishments throughout her lifetime.
She united with Sunlight Baptist Tabernacle, under the leadership of the late Rev. A.B. Boylan. She was a dedicated usher, participant in the Senior Mission Ministry and the Deacon Wives Ministry. Lillian remained a faithful member until her health no longer allowed her to attend. She was truly a strong Christian woman, serving as an example for others to follow.
Dr. Nickerson was preceded in death by her parents(Reeder and Lucy Reese), husband (Cornell Nickerson Sr.), daughter(Lois Tilmon), Grandsons(Roderick and Cornell III), and three sisters and three brothers.
She leaves to cherish her memory to her daughter(Agnes),son-in-laws (Ed Jones and Charles TIlmon), son (Cornell “Nick” Nickerson Jr.), sisters (Berdine Randell and Marie Johnson), brother-in-law(Lucious Randell), grandchildren; Jenette-Kevin Georgetown, Katrina Tilmon, Nicole-Tarik Demby, Eric Jones and Brittany Jones, great-grand children;Kevin “Bud” Scott, Christian Nickerson, Kevin Georgetown Jr., Tarik Demby Jr.,Paris Cofeild, Trinity Demby, Cornell “Dinky” Harrison, & Marianna Jones. Sister-in-law;Nazarene B. McGowen, godchildren; Dr. Albert L. Lemons, Cynthia-Jackie Scott and Jackea, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
