Linda Sue Alsup went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Linda Sue was born to Glenn Miller & Mavis Patton on December 1,1940 in Merkel, Texas. In her early teen years, she moved to Odessa, Tx where she cracked the bullwhips at Odessa High and devoured every book she could find.
An avid reader and truly, a seeker of knowledge, Linda Sue managed to put herself through college, support her husband through law school, raise three wild kids, and later earned two masters degrees- starting with nothing more than a West Texas beauty license. She found her passion as a respected Honors English teacher, sharing literature, poetry and writing with her beloved students of Milby High School where she taught for 27 years. She regularly sought to improve her teaching and to learn more about ways to help her students succeed. As a leader in the Greater Houston Writing Project, she helped other teachers develop their skills. An excellent writer herself, she often shared pieces of writing about her west Texas origins.
Linda Sue is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Debra Glennette Bigelow. She is survived by her children: Floyd Devlin Alsup and wife Bronwyn, son Randall Burton Alsup, and daughter Sharon Cerelle Emde; brother James Sterling and wife Elizabeth; two adored grandsons Tanner Glenn Emde and Ryder Wes Emde. Linda Sue is also lovingly remembered by numerous family members, nieces, cousins, friends and students.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who cared for her- especially Gail Weems whose love, time, generosity, and steadfast friendship spanned more than a decade. When it came to Linda Sue, she kept everyone involved on their toes. The family also thanks the Halcyon Hospice Staff with special gratitude to nurse Heidi.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 13th at 2:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, TX 77079-1407, reception to immediately follow. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in her name to: The Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org, or to a charity of your choosing.
