

Mrs. Linda Irene Newman of Fayetteville and Houston, Texas died on January 7 at age 77. She is survived by her stepson/son Mark Newman. The beloved daughter of the late Gordon Edward Van Liew and Patricia Irene Booker, Linda is further survived by her brothers Gary Van Liew (Rhonda Van Liew) and Dell Van Liew (Marcia Van Liew), her grandchildren, Jonathan Theodore “Teddy” Newman, Samuel Franklin Newman and Rhys Richard Newman, her niece Renee Tallent, her niece Makenna Van Liew and nephew Gentry Van Liew.
Linda was raised in San Diego and later in Houston where she graduated from Lamar High School. She attended Louisiana State University where she studied psychology.
Linda is preceded in death by her loving husband John. They met in Tennessee and eventually relocated back to her hometown in Houston in support of the Van Liew family business, Cal-Tex Citrus Juice (Vita-Fresh) in 1979.
Upon John’s retirement, they relocated to Fayetteville, Texas where they enjoyed their car club, raising cattle, what else.
She passionately enjoyed her dogs and donkeys, watching weekly shows like Dancing with the Stars and Survivor, rooting for the Astros and Texans and doting over her grandchildren. She also cared deeply for local Fayetteville friends and community. She was always there to lend an ear and share words of support and wisdom.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery 13001 Katy Freeway Houston TX 77079. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 14 at 10 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home & Cemetery.
