Linda Oppenheim passed away peacefully on December 18 after a valiant battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Roger Oppenheim, daughter Olivia, son Mitchell, Mother Jimmie Watson and sister Susan Watson. Linda also had an extensive network of friends that crossed borders in our community and around the world.
Linda was the daughter of James and Jimmie Jean Watson. She was born on March 18, 1960 in Wichita Falls, Texas. Linda attended Spring Branch Senior High School and Sam Houston State University. She received her Associates Degree from Wharton County Junior College in Dental Hygiene. Linda was a dental hygienist for many years before retiring to care for her children. Retirement is a bit of a misnomer since she spent countless hours volunteering at the children’s schools, church, WHAM, and other organizations. She also sang in the Chancel Choir at St. Lukes, directed several youth choir tours to Boston, Alaska, Cuba, Scotland and San Francisco. Linda was also involved in all phases of youth musicals from the Music Man to South Pacific. Watching youth transform to very special people was a passion of hers.
Linda was always a very sporting person, beginning with meeting Roger while playing co-ed soccer, to playing league tennis out of Westside Tennis Club. Mixed in between was playing a mean first base for many softball teams, horseback riding on every family vacation, and just about everything else except bowling.
The family wishes to thank the many nurses and doctors who tried to recover her health at MDA and the compassionate folks at Houston Hospice. In addition, the family would like to thank the many friends who cared for Linda and made meals during her illness.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 22 at 11:00 a. m. Dr. Tom Pace will officiate at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to West Houston Assistance Ministries, 10501 Meadowglen Ln, Houston, Texas 77042, and Citizens For Animal Protection Service, 17555 Katy Freeway, Houston, Texas, 77094.
