Lola Marie "Bob" Conklin was born in Jasper, Texas and lived her early years there working on the family farm. Her mother died when she was only ten years old, but Bob always remembered her clearly with fond memories. She was always her daddy’s helper whether it be tending sheep, hoeing the garden, shelling peas, or the countless chores of the family farm. She never complained when lending a helping hand. Lola married Hugh Bert Conklin, February 19, 1936, and they were married 53 years. After her marriage she resided in Houston, Texas for her remaining 82 years; this included 53 years with Hugh, 19.5 years living solo, 8 years with her son and daughter-in-law, and 1.5 years at Tranquility Nursing Home.
Lola was a great cook and loved to bake pies, pineapple cakes, fudge candy, and all sorts of goodies for her family. She was always quick to make a meal for anyone. She enjoyed oil painting, reading, puzzles and going to the "Jasper House," and walking in the woods. She was a member of Harbor Baptist and then Faith Memorial Baptist Church, where she wrote and gave beautiful devotions. Lola was a faithful servant of the Lord and said beautiful prayers.
