Thầy quê ở Thái Bình, mà Thầy vẫn đùa là "Thái Lọ". Có hai cuộc di cư lớn nhất trong đời Thầy gắn liền với lịch sử đất nước. 

Tháng 7 năm 1954, vừa bước vào Trung học, cả Thầy và trường Trần Lục đều đi cư từ Bắc vào Nam, bỏ lại nơi chôn nhau cắt rốn ở phía Bắc của vĩ tuyến 17.  Năm đó Thầy vừa 11 tuổi, hình ảnh Thái Bình, Hà Nội vẫn còn nhạt nhòa trong ký ức của Thầy.

Tháng 4 năm 1975, một lần nữa Thầy cùng gia đình có một cuộc di cư lần thứ hai, lần này xa hơn, từ Việt Nam qua Mỹ ở tuổi 32, bỏ lại cả một thời tuổi trẻ ở Sài gòn, ở Biên Hòa.
Cả hai cuộc di cư đều không có lần quay lại, như một câu hát của Nhạc sĩ Nguyệt Ánh "Một lần đi là một lần vĩnh biệt. Một lần đi là mất lối quay về"

Thầy đi bình yên, thanh thoát, học trò ở khắp nơi trên thế giới sẽ cầu nguyện cho Thầy, và kính cẩn chào Thầy lần cuối như ngày xưa tụi em vẫn đứng dậy chào Thầy mỗi đầu giờ Hình hoc.

Đồng nghiệp và học trò sẽ nhớ Thầy với vẻ nghiêm khắc, nhiệt tình của một ông Thầy trẻ của Trung học Ngô Quyền Biên Hòa gần nửa thế kỷ trước.

Nguyễn Sơn mới báo cho tôi hung tin này, Tôi sống ở bên Pháp, khoảng cách quá xa, không thể tiễn bạn tới nơi an nghỉ cuối cùng.

Thành kính phân ưu cùng gia đình, và cầu cho linh hồn  bạn, được trở về cõi vĩnh hằng.

Let us celebrate the life of Long, a person whose kindness and unwavering faith left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Long was a beacon of goodness, a gentle spirit who embodied the virtues of compassion, empathy, and love. His good temper was like a soothing balm, calming storms and bringing warmth to those around him. Whether it was a simple smile or a heartfelt conversation, he had a way of making everyone feel valued and heard.
His unwavering belief in Jesus Christ was the cornerstone of his existence. Every Sunday, rain or shine, he would find himself in the hallowed halls of the church, seeking solace, guidance, and communion. His faith was not merely a ritual; it was a living, breathing force that guided his actions and shaped his character.

But Long was not confined by the walls of the church alone. He also embraced the concept of karma, the cosmic law of cause and effect. He understood that our deeds reverberate through time, creating ripples that touch lives far beyond our immediate perception. His kindness was not just a fleeting gesture; it was an investment in a better world.
I remember the day I entered the Thu Duc Military Academy, nervous and uncertain. It was Long who extended a hand of friendship, who visited me and ensured that my transition was smooth. He placed me in the most easygoing platoon, recognizing my need for support during those challenging days. His selflessness was a testament to his character.
And oh, how he carried himself! Long never raised his voice in anger, never engaged in pointless quarrels. His calm demeanor was like a tranquil lake, reflecting the serenity within his heart. He taught us that strength need not be loud; it could reside in the quiet courage of choosing kindness over conflict.
As we bid farewell to our dear friend, let us remember the lessons he leaves behind.  
Rest in peace, dear friend. May your soul find eternal serenity, and may your memory continue to inspire us to be better versions of ourselves.

He was Math Teacher of our 8th grade at Ngo Quyen  Bien Hoa (Viet Nam) .  Back then, we weren't only learnt Math , but also learnt morality from him.
Days , months, and years have passed by , the fondest memory of Math periods are still with  me as well as all of my classmates. He made the Math Period (back then) brighter, more interesting with his 
knowledge and caring.

All of us (his students around the world  deeply miss Thay Nguyen Phi Long  and pray that that he'll be peaceful in God' care.
