Loretta was co-founder of Muilenburg Prosthetics, Inc. Loretta and her husband Al Muilenburg moved to Houston from Minnesota in 1948 and established their own prosthetic business. While Al was a naval officer in WWII Loretta completed studies in occupational therapy at Milwaukee-Downer College (Wisconsin). She wanted to help veterans adjust to life after being injured in the war. Al felt the same way and was inspired to help amputees. She attended the University of Minnesota where she graduated with a dual bachelor’s degree in music and fine art. She was an active member of the Kappa Delta sorority and in 2017, she received a 75-year Diamond Circle Certificate. Loretta loved horses and was a founder of the Gulf Coast Women’s Equine Association and a member of the Nacogdoches Hound & Hunt Club in Chireno, Texas. She also took-up sailing and was one of the founding members of the Seabrook Sailing Club on Galveston Bay. Loretta was a devoted mother and made sure her children led fun and interesting lives. When her daughters joined Girl Scouts, Loretta also became involved and accompanied the girls on many canoe trips and campouts. Up until her stroke she continued to remain involved in the family business making weekly trips to the office where she visited patients and employees.
Surviving are her daughters Loral Cobb Haus (spouse Donald Haus) of Houston and Gretchen Woellner of Austin; son Ted Muilenburg (spouse Sally Muilenburg) of Houston; granddaughters Lorrella Cobb, Melissa Muilenburg, Cory Haus Moffat (spouse Steve Moffat); grandsons John Woellner (spouse Laura Woellner), Max Muilenburg, and Robert Haus (spouse Elizabeth Haus); great-granddaughters Emily Woellner, Evelyn Woellner, Hannah Haus, Madeline Crenshaw and E.B. Crenshaw. She was preceded in death by her husband Al Muilenburg.
A visitation with family & friends for Loretta will be held Sunday, August 1, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX. A funeral service will occur Monday, August 2, 2021 at 2:00 PM with a committal service to follow.
