Lorraine Jessee Podd

Lorraine Jessee Podd was born in January 1919 in Beaumont, Texas to James H. and Nannie A. Wortham and passed away on September 8, 2015 in Huntsville, Texas. She is survived by her children, Richard Jessee and wife, Bobbie; Steve Jessee and wife, Chris; and Nancy Madeley and stepchildren Gregory Podd and wife, Pam; Douglas Podd and wife Sally; and Elaine Podd; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Lorraine was preceded in death by past husbands Richard V. Jessee and Ernest G. Podd and son-in-law, Gregory Z. Madeley.

Lorraine grew up in Houston and graduated from Sam Houston High School. She loved gardening and, in her later life, took up painting. She was an early member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church where she put her strong religious faith into action through regular worship, volunteering, and assisting elderly members. She also volunteered for many years in the church library.

Lorraine was a loving and giving wife and mother. Proof of her strong character was evident by her ability to meet head on whatever hardships or obstacles came her way. Her children and grandchildren all loved her outspokenness and wonderful sense of humor. She will be greatly missed.

Her family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at MRC Creekside in Huntsville, TX and to Margarette Robertson and her sisters Pam and Nicole.

Family and friends are invited to a brief visitation from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Monday, September 14, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston followed by a celebration of Lorraine’s life. A graveside service will be held approximately 30 minutes later at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Lorraine’s memory to Chapelwood Methodist Church Library, 11140 Greenbay Street, Houston, TX 77024.
