Louisa Shade Russell went to be with her loving Lord and Savior on Saturday, the 26th of February 2022. Louisa passed peacefully in her sleep at home in Houston, in the presence of her adoring husband. She was 87 years of age.
Louisa was born in Houston on the 11th of May 1934, and was adopted at birth by her parents Wilhelmina and Henry Shade. She graduated from The Hockaday School and later continued her education at the University of Texas for a short time. She was an active member at The Junior League of Houston, where she served as the Texas Children’s Hospital Community Service director.
She loved needlepoint and frequently made her loved ones beautiful pillows, stockings, ornaments and more. She was passionate about Texas football, and supported the Longhorns regardless of the score. She enjoyed spending summers in Breckenridge, Colorado, and was sure to bring her dog on every trip she took.
Louisa delighted in being a mother and considered it her greatest accomplishment. She loved her family wholeheartedly, and will be remembered by her unwavering faith and strength that was instilled to all that knew her. She experienced many wonderful memories throughout her lifetime, and would smile every time she told her granddaughters about them.
Louisa will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her son, William “Bubba” F. Russell Jr. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, William F. Russell; and her granddaughters, Lindsey, Clara Ann and Mary Grace.
A memorial service and celebration of her life is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, the 9th of March, in the Sanctuary of the Church of St. John the Divine, 2450 River Oaks Blvd. in Houston, where the Rev. Doug Richnow will officiate.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Sumners Hall.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions in her name be directed to The Church of St. John the Divine; 2450 River Oaks Blvd., Houston, TX, 77019; or to an Alzheimer's/Dementia charity organization of one's choosing.
