One of my fondest memory of Tita Lory is when I was a little girl and she was already in the US, she would always send little gifts to everyone.  She knew I've been wanting a Baby Alive doll and she didn't forget.  One of the packages contained that gift and I cherished it very much.

She was always generous and kind.  She was like a second mom to me having stayed with her while attending college.  All of us, nieces & nephews, think of her fondly.  

Tita Lory, you will be missed greatly...

Tita Lory has always been someone I admired my whole life.  A beacon of strength, well accomplished yet down to earth, compassionate and extremely generous human being who has touched so many lives beyond our imagination within family, friends and especially within her practice.  For me, as a child, I always wondered what Dad’s oldest sister, my baptismal godmother, whom I never met was like.  I was told she was the first among the siblings to venture away from a closely knit family out of the country to pursue her dreams .  I remembered yearning also to be a doctor at some point “to be just like Tita Lory.”  I obviously did not become one nevertheless I took the same path leaving a sheltered life with family to venture out to see the world!   When things got tough away from mother country, there was always that comforting thought that crossed my mind, “If Tita Lory made it, I think I will be alright!”  Thank you Tita Lory for the love and support you have given me to undertake the challenge of striving towards a better life.   You are truly an inspiration in our lives!  I love you and til we meet again dear Aunt!

I remember tita Lory from when we were kids. Christmases meant treats from her in Roces.  We were living in the apartment. I would often imagine what she looks like and how she was in person as a little girl.  Dad Pete would oblige us to write her letters at least once a year.  And I did , just imagining always what I would say to a very sweet and generous lady.  So it wasn’t hard to write my letters at all.  Dad was particular though about the form and he would always edit them.   I then imagined Tita Lory to be a perfectionist. 

 As I grew up and had chances to be with her, my imagination of her and what she was, wasn’t far.  She truly was the proper, gentle mannered, kind, sweet, generous and ever smiling aunt.  I’m thankful to God for the times I got  to see her as an adult for even short times: back in the 90s when we visited Texas as a family (with Lola Carning), during our 2011 wedding in Needville, in the Philippines when we visited several times (when dad was sick) and when we went to Texas with mom Lucy this year 2019 for which she even reimbursed our trip (true to her generous nature).  I will forever treasure the wooden rosary she gave me (as a reminder to pray constantly) and all the vintage dolls she has given to my daughter, Nadine.  Nadine calls her the doll lady from heaven. 

If there is one thing I learned from her is that, in order to be heard, one must be a good listener. Tita Lory listened with her heart and so that must be why she knew what to give each one. Rest In Peace my dear aunt. Say hello to dad Pete for us.  Enjoy the company of our Creator and  the multitude of angels and saints along with our Blessed Mother.  Until we meet again!
