Lucia C. Rojas, 92, of Houston, Texas, passed away on March 13, 2026. Born on September 16, 1933, Lucia lived a life marked by strong faith and devotion to God, always seeking opportunities to serve and uplift others. After this introduction, “Lucia” will be lovingly remembered as a kind, compassionate, faith-filled woman who embraced evangelizing, encouraging, serving, visiting, consoling, and praying for those in need.
A longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Houston, Lucia volunteered in many aspects of parish life. She prayed the Rosary faithfully, spent Holy Hour, read her Bible, and wrote down scriptures daily to meditate on—often making notes to herself tied to the day’s verses. Lucia visited the sick and homebound, led rosaries at church and at wakes, and assisted in home Masses by coordinating and scheduling monthly Mass at family homes. She also visited those in the detention center, served the community alongside religious nuns, and was actively involved in the Charismatic Renewal.
Lucia’s devotion was reflected in her many ministries and associations. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Society, Los Guadalupanos Association, and Altar Society; served as a Eucharistic Ministry member; and sang as part of the Glory and Praise Choir. In her younger years, Lucia held a desire to enter a convent to become a Religious Nun. She was blessed to go on pilgrimages to the Basilica of San Juan del Valle, Basilica Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, and to Medjugorje (Our Lady of Medjugorje). Together with her parents, she traveled to Jalisco, Mexico, to visit Our Lady of San Juan de los Lagos. She also completed a cursillo and attended several other retreats.
Lucia enjoyed shopping and eating out, and she especially loved gatherings and celebrations with family and friends. Born in San Gabriel, Texas, she experienced farm life—picking cotton, harvesting corn, and taking on many other farm chores. After moving to Houston in the 1960s, she worked in building housekeeping for a short time, then retired to care at home.
Lucia was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gonzalo, Juan, Agustin, and Hilario; and sisters, Anastasia, Maria and San Juana.
Lucia is survived by her sisters, Macaria, Dolores, and Janie; niece, Estella R. Miller; nephews, Gonzalo, William, Joe Anthony Najera, Steven and Agustin; and numerous cousins, relatives, and friends.
