Dr. Granier was born in La Paz, Bolivia to Manuel Bertini Granier and Drina Spikula. At age 11, he went to the boarding school in Lima, Peru. He received his medical degree from Hamburg University School of Medicine in Hamburg, Germany. Dr. Granier completed his residency in surgery at Hamburg University Hospital and Israeli Hospital in Hamburg and finished his residency in internal medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He served as an internal medicine consultant at the U.S. Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia and has participated for two years in medical missions in Bolivia.
He has been in private practice in Texas for forty years. He was actively involved in local, state and national medical professional organizations. Dr. Granier served as president of the Brazoria County Medical Society. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, loved travelling, fine dining, golfing, hiking, reading, fishing and hunting. He was dedicated to his patients, taking time to listen and explain things to each patient, which earned him their gratitude and in turn, he felt honored to be their physician.
Dr. Granier was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Granier; his mother, Drina Spikula; his brother, Carlos Granier. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Daniela; his daughter, Margo and her husband, Dr. Marc Jeschke; his son Jean-Charles Dirat and wife, Mina Merad; his son Robert Granier; his son Miguel Granier and wife, Dr. Rebecca LeLeiko; his grandchildren, Victoria Granier, Alex, Nicklas and Julia Jeschke, Hugo and Lisa Dirat and Reisel and Esme Granier; his sister Milila and husband, Hermann Krutzfeld; his brother Fernando Granier and wife, Britta; and his nieces, nephews and cousins.
Luis will be remembered for his commitment and compassion to his many patients and his love and dedication to his family.
A memorial service and celebration of Dr. Granier’s life will be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 27th of September 2018, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons Funeral Directors, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests memorial contributions in Dr. Granier’s memory be made to one of Luis’ favorite charities (listed below) or the charity of one’s choice.
