Luis Felipe Lay, 92, of Havana, Cuba, passed away on September 1st in Houston, Texas.
Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Monday, September 14th at Garden Oaks Funeral Home, 13430 Bellaire Blvd. Houston, Texas 77083. Holy Rosary is scheduled for 7:00pm.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, September 15th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Forest Park Southwest Cemetery. Arrangements are by Garden Oaks Funeral Home.
Luis Felipe Lay was born in Havana, Cuba to Oscar Alfredo Lay and Zenaida Sabina de las Mercedes Regueyra on December 28, 1933. He attended Champagnat school and later the University of Havana where he graduated with a degree in Finance. He married Miriam Cristina Gomez on January 3, 1959 in Miami, Florida. He worked at the Banco Continental de Cuba until he was forced to flee into exile. Once in the United States he worked as a comptroller for many companies in finance, manufacturing, fashion, insurance and development. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 74 years achieving the highest ranks of the order. He was a member of Casa Cuba, and was involved in chambers of commerce, pastoral councils, and active in many lay religious organizations.
Luis Felipe Lay is preceded in death by his loving wife Miriam Cristina Lay, and his sister Elena del Carmen Pelaez.
Luis is survived by his children, Myriam Cristina Rickey, Luis Felipe Jr. and his wife Gloria, Dennis Albert and his wife Vivian, Joseph Edward and his wife Vivian, Rosemarie Juanes and her husband Santiago and Robert Anthony and his wife Machelle, Luis’ brother Oscar Anastacio de Jesus, and sister Zenaida del Carmen Muñiz. Luis is also survived by his grandchildren, Cristina Mendoza (Luis), Jacquelyn Olexa (Travis), Sterling, Brittany Garcia (Daniel), Joseph (Stephanie), Melissa Kelley (Dominic), Dennis Jr, Christopher (Sandra), Diana, Jonathan, Joshua, Nathaniel, Carmen and Hayley as well as his great-grandchildren, Evelina, Aidan, Gabriel, Harper, Liliana, Christopher, Jr., Adeline, Luca, and Levi.
