I am so sorry to hear about Luiz Jacque's passing.  I worked for LJ in the Latin American business in Monsanto in the mid-90's.  He was a great leader and wonderful boss - smart, exceptional common sense, kind-hearted, empathetic and always in search of doing the right thing for our people.   LJ took a huge chance on me, bringing me into the Latin American group with no particular cultural or language skills.  He taught me the ropes, especially softening my American nature and embracing the more family oriented Latin way of doing things, and always gave me honest and helpful guidance.  His mentoring and the opportunities he provided represented a significant pivot in my career and I owe him so much.  You are in a better place, my friend.  May God bless you.

During this time of mourning, I have received messages from those who have identified with my father's words over the years. I intend to give back with my own vision. Years ago, I asked him, "If you were to die and you could give me just one lesson, the most important of all, what would it be?" After pondering, he replied, "Learn to truly listen to what people have to say. Hear the fullness of their words, understanding not just what they say, but what's behind it. Today, I realize that he gave me a weapon to decipher people, which years later I began to use against him and his reserved way of being. I can say that today I understand him better. Nesse período de luto, tenho recebido mensagens daqueles que se identificaram com as palavras do meu pai através dos anos. Pretendo retribuir com minha própria visão. My dear Uncle Luiz Jacques will be greatly missed. He managed to be always around, even living physically far from us in Brazil. He was caring, fun and powerful. Whenever he came to Brazil everybody would be happy; whenever he was't here, we'd think about him. Now we mourn him, but I know this sadness will soon give space to happy memories of the many happy moments and stories we shared. Lots of love to my incredible cousins and my beautiful aunt.
