Luther Charles Douglas was born to Luther Douglas and Ruby Luster Douglas in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 16, 1944. He was christened as an infant in New Orleans. The family soon returned to Houston, Texas, and resided in Pleasantville. The family joined Pleasantville United Methodist Church where Luther Charles accepted Christ and grew to know the Lord.
Luther Charles was educated in the Houston Independent School District and was a 1962 graduate of Phyllis Wheatley Senior High School. He then attended Texas Southern University where he was a member of the track team. After leaving TSU, Luther Charles joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina.
On February 22, 1967, Luther Charles and Joyce Faye Ford were joined in marriage. Their daughters, Sharita Lynnell and Katina Nicole were born into this union. They remained married until 2007.
After returning to Houston, Luther Charles was employed by Armco Steel. He remained at Armco until giving into his entrepreneurial spirit and opening two carwashes in northeast Houston. Doug’s Kwik Kar Wash opened in 1978 and remained in business for several years.
In the early 2000’s Doug (as he was affectionally known), opened a bike shop on Lockwood Drive named Shop N’ Bop with his friend and business partner Carol Denise Riley.
Luther Charles is preceded in death by his parents Luther and Ruby Douglas. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Sharita and Katina; four grandchildren: Asia, Jordyn, Noah, and Christian; his sister Patsy and her husband Lemmie; son-in-law: Lamar; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends who loved him dearly.
