Mable Go

Mable Go passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at the age of 92, surrounded by the love of her family. Her life was defined by resilience, unwavering devotion to those she loved, and a quiet determination that helped shape generations to come.

Mable was born on August 10, 1933, in Indianola, Mississippi. As a young child, her family relocated to Metairie, Louisiana, where she spent her childhood and young adult years before marrying the love of her life, Pat Go, in 1955.

Her early years were marked by hardship. Following the death of her father while she was still in elementary school, Mable helped support her family by working in the family’s grocery store after school. Life was not easy, and the family persevered without many of the opportunities or guidance available to others. Despite these challenges, Mable excelled academically. Exceptionally intelligent with a gift for mathematics, she graduated second in her high school class. Outside of school, she cherished spending time with friends and especially enjoyed going dancing.

Together, Mable and Pat built a remarkable life through hard work and entrepreneurship. Over the years they owned and operated numerous small businesses, including four neighborhood grocery stores, two apartment buildings, several single-family rental homes, a wholesale produce distribution warehouse, a restaurant, a liquor store, and a retail strip center. Mable was often the welcoming face of these businesses. Her warm personality, genuine interest in people, and ability to build lasting relationships inspired customer loyalty that no large chain store could replace.

While she was successful in business, Mable considered her greatest accomplishment to be her family. Having sacrificed much of her own childhood to work, she and Pat were determined that their children would have opportunities they never had. Education became their highest priority, and Mable expected excellence. Her children fondly remember her saying, “A is for average,” a phrase that reflected her high expectations as well as her belief in their potential.

Because of her encouragement and sacrifice, all five of her children earned college degrees, pursuing careers as an architect, chemical engineer, accountant, statistician, and mechanical engineer. Two earned MBA degrees, and one earned a Ph.D. in Statistics. Mable took immense pride in their accomplishments, knowing they represented the opportunities she had worked so hard to provide.

Mable was preceded in death by both parents, her son Steven Go, and all of her siblings except her brother Wally.

She is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Pat; her children John (Joanne), Steve’s wife Lan, Denise (Benny), Kerry (Jeanette), and Pam (Ray); her grandchildren Mike (Amanda), Jennifer (Ernie), Kimberly, Daniel, Ashley, Zachary, Nathan, and Gabriel; her great-grandchildren Chase, Aiden, and Grayson; her brother Wally; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

Outside of work and family, Mable found joy in creating beautiful things. She was an accomplished seamstress, making her children’s clothing, quilts, and countless stuffed animals by hand. Her creativity flourished through sewing, crafts, and gardening. In later years, she became well known for her intricate needlepoint flowers, creating hundreds of handcrafted wedding favors that reflected both her patience and artistic talent. She also designed elaborate handmade greeting cards and took great pride in tending her garden every day and winning Yard of the Month several times after retirement. She especially loved admiring beautiful decorations, particularly during the Christmas season.

Although she never received formal training in art or design, Mable possessed a remarkable eye for color, texture, and spatial design. Those who knew her often marveled at her natural creativity. It is easy to imagine that, had she been born in another era with different opportunities, she might have become a gifted designer. She also had a deeply caring heart and found great fulfillment in looking after others, making sure everyone around her was comfortable, cared for, and never in need.

Mable’s legacy is not measured simply by the businesses she helped build or the many beautiful things she created with her hands, but by the lives she shaped through her love, sacrifice, encouragement, and steadfast belief that every generation should have greater opportunities than the one before it.

Her family will forever remember her strength, her creativity, her generosity, and the enduring love that formed the foundation of their lives. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
