

Mamie Etta Williams-Piper was born on August 31, 1927, in Pledger, Texas, to the late Mamie Turner Williams and A.D. Williams. She peacefully transitioned from this life surrounded by love and prayer, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and service.
Mamie married the love of her life, John Henry Piper Sr., and together they built a strong, loving family. From their union came four children: John Henry Piper Jr. (Janet), Renita Oliver-Piper, Dr. Linda Piper-Price (Justin), and Etta Piper Jamison Olaniran (Olawale). She also gained a beloved stepson, Elwood Lee Arthur Piper, through her marriage.
A proud graduate of Newgulf High School, Mamie pursued her passion for caregiving at a nursing school in Houston, Texas. Her dedication and compassion led to a long and fulfilling career in the Texas Medical Center at the Texas Institute of Rehabilitation and Research (TIRR) for 36 years.
Mamie’s commitment to helping others extended beyond her professional life. She and her husband invested in their community by providing housing through the ownership of several properties in the Acres Homes area. They were also founding members of the Yorkdale Civic Club as the first Secretary and President. Additionally, Mamie's involvement and impact in her community and church youth was exemplary.
Mamie joined church at an early age under the leadership of Pastor N. Bolden. She joined Starlight Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. U.S Turney, then the leadership of Rev. Clifford B. Meachum where she served as President of the Mission Board, and she served as a Sunday School Member. She was a longstanding and faithful disciple of Starlight, where she lived out her Christian faith in service and fellowship under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Jason Meachum.
Mamie leaves to cherish her memory one sister Mary Alice Gordon of Wharton, Texas. Eleven grandchildren: Sinnetti Piper; Phlavaous Piper; John Piper III (Camille); Marcus Piper (Talisha); Ramses Piper (Tiffany); Dr. Doshie Piper; Alicia Piper; C.W. Oliver; Warren “Stuart” Price (Tatiana); Brandon Jamison; Alexander Jamison and Kenya Wilson. Her legacy also includes 18 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends who all lovingly called her GranGran.
She was preceded in death by her son, John Jr., and her great-grandson, Trenton.
Mamie’s life was a testament to resilience, faith, and love. Her memory will forever be a source of inspiration to all who knew her.
A visitation for Mamie will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Star Light Baptist Church, located at 9202 Willow St. Houston, Texas 77088. The funeral service will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM,. The committal will be held from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, 10401 W. Montgomery Rd. Houston Texas 77088.
