Marcia Esther Cheatham Ellison was born in Houston, Texas on October 6, 1934, and died in San Antonio, Texas on July 1, 2024. She was a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio. She was a secretary for various organizations. She was a long-time member of University Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, where she served as an Elder and a Deacon.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther Hinson and Robert Earl Cheatham, and by her brother Robert Donald Cheatham.
She is survived by her children, Shawn Craig Ellison of Austin, TX, Clark Stewart Ellison of Austin, Wayne Douglas Ellison (Lou Ann) of Ruidoso, NM, and Ralph Michael Ellison of Austin; and by her grandchildren, Miles Clark Ellison, Ralph Matthew Ellison, Charlotte Esther Ellison, David Robert Ellison, and Stephen Wayne Ellison; and by her great-grandchildren, Jayden Isaiah Vaughn, Camron West Ellison, Brooklyn Noel Vaughn, and Evelyn Mae Ellison; by her sister-in-law, Joyce Cheatham; and by her lifelong friend, Charlotte Ann Kennedy Jensen.
Marcia (MAR-ci-ah, not Marsha) was a joyful and radiant person who showed kindness and respect to everyone she met. She loved local theater, Tex-Mex food, photography, and the San Antonio Spurs. She loved her church family and delighted in her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was the archivist of the family and a prolific correspondent. She faithfully sent birthday cards, wedding anniversary cards, and sobriety anniversary cards to everyone in her extended family. She had an impressive talent for discovering unusual local attractions that were free of charge, and often instigated excursions to track down outdoor art exhibits, high school plays, film productions, or free museums. We miss her already.
