Marcia was born January 2, 1938, in Phoenix, Arizona, to David and Hazel Nelson. She attended Brigham Young University, where she met Stephen Lewis Sorensen. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple.

Marcia worked as a legal assistant for 34 years, where her dedication and strong work ethic earned the respect and appreciation of colleagues and friends. She had an incredible memory for details and seemed to know every case file by heart.
Marcia made beautiful music throughout her life. Her piano and organ playing were loved by all who heard her. She had a special gift that brought warmth and peace to gatherings and worship services alike.
Marcia faithfully served in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, especially in the youth program, where her kindness, guidance, and testimony touched many lives. Her devotion reflected her deep desire to serve her Heavenly Father and those around her.
Marcia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen; her sons, Stephen II and Mark; her parents; her six siblings; and many cherished loved ones. Her family finds comfort in knowing she was joyfully welcomed home and reunited with those who have gone before her.
She is survived by her children, Brian; Jay (Lynette); and Gayelyn (Mark); along with 17 grandchildren: Stephen III, Sondra, Jason, David, Andrew, Joel, Britney, Kyle, Scott, Jay Jr., Katelyn, Daniel, Joseph, Spencer, Matthew, Emma, and Katie; as well as 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her great joy.
