
Margaret Cecile Edmundson Alcorn, 79, died peacefully with family by her side on February 10, 2014. Margaret, a third generation Houstonian, was born December 20, 1934, the daughter of Erlyne Carstens Edmundson and Jesse Wright Edmundson Jr.
Margaret attended St. Agnes Academy and the University of Texas where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was a dedicated volunteer and fundraiser for many organizations including the Alley Theater, the Houston Museum of Natural Science and the Arthritis Foundation. Starting MEA Designs in the 1970s, Margaret was a talented interior designer who delighted in bringing beauty to homes and offices across Houston. She even once selected the fabric for the pews at St. Michael’s Catholic Church where she was a lifelong member.
Her family and friends have wonderful memories of spending time with her in Florida at her beautiful Windward condominium in Perdido Key. Gulf winds, fresh shrimp, good friends, sunshine, and lots of laughter were key ingredients of times spent with Margaret at the beach.
Margaret is preceded in death by granddaughter Sara Elizabeth Alcorn. She is survived by brother Jesse Wright Edmundson III and her three children, George Avery Alcorn Jr. and wife Sallie; William Wright Alcorn and wife Amy; and Margaret Ellen Alcorn Breedlove and husband Mike. Margaret was so proud of her grandchildren Lexey Alcorn Breedlove, George Avery Alcorn III, Shelby Carstens Breedlove, Maria Ellen Alcorn, Elizabeth Jane Alcorn, Emily Jane Alcorn, Susan Patricia Alcorn and William Graham Alcorn.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 14, 2014, in the Hunters Creek Chapel at Earthman Funeral Home, 8303 Katy Freeway, from 4 until 6 P.M. with a rosary at 5 P.M. The funeral mass is scheduled for 10 A.M. Saturday, February 15, 2014, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Road.
The family thanks the loving staff of St. Dominic’s Nursing Home and the Methodist Hospital for all of the care and compassion shown to Margaret. Those inclined to make a donation in Margaret’s name may do so to the local Houston chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, the American Diabetes Association, or St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
