Margaret Jones Washington was born on July 9, 1947, in Houston, Texas, to the late Walter Sr. and Bertha Bell Jones. She was the only girl among four children born into this union. Margaret was educated in the Houston Independent School District and proudly graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. God later blessed her with her only child, a beautiful baby girl, Lisa Jones, who loved her dearly.
Margaret accepted Christ and was baptized by Rev. Marvin L. Dawson at Jones Chapel A.M.E. Church. She later joined St. Paul A.M.E. Church on Edwards Street under Rev. Roderick D. Dawson. Margaret and her family played an instrumental role in the church’s transition from Edwards Street to its new location in Greenspoint.
On December 27, 1989, Margaret married her husband, Douglas Washington, and the two remained devoted to one another until her passing.
Margaret served faithfully in many capacities within the church. She was a Trustee, President of the Usher Ministry, a supporter of the youth praise dancers, and she served her final communion as a Stewardess on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Beyond her church work, Margaret dedicated over 30 years of service to the Health Care Industry.
On July 6, 2026, Margaret Marie Jones-Washington peacefully departed this life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter Sr. and Bertha Jones, and her brothers Walter Jr., Wilbert, and Alfred Jones.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Douglas Washington; her daughter, Lisa Jones; her grandchildren Carlesha, Carlos (Porsher), Ceasar, Deandre; her great grandchildren Harmoni, Carlos Jr., Cameron, Carter; and her god-granddaughters Zariah and Mariah. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.
