Margaret Frost Ramsey Ketcham, born on the 11th of June 1918, Washington D.C. and died on the 8th of April 2021, in Houston TX. She grew up in Lansdowne PA, graduating from Lansdowne High School in 1936. Her first piano lessons were here and music continued to be a gift she shared wherever she lived.
She moved with her family to Port Arthur, TX in 1936, graduating from Port Arthur Business College in 1937. Margaret attended Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman’s University) and it was here she studied organ with Carl Wiesemann. She played at the dedication of TSCW’s Little Chapel in the Woods. She received her Degree in Elementary Education in 1941 and was listed in WHO’S WHO AMONG STUDENTS IN AMERICAN UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES for the school year 1940-41 as well as serving as Round Table President. Margaret moved back to Washington just before WWII and spent the war years as secretary to Julius Krug, Director of the War Production Board. After the war Mr. Krug was appointed Secretary of the Interior and Margaret was his Executive Assistant. This led to many trips with the Secretary to National Parks across the country.
In 1952 Margaret married Charlie Ketcham. They spent 30 years living at Mount Joy, their home in Marshall, Virginia. While there they were involved in the small community life. She was very supportive as Charlie organized a Rescue Squad for this small town/countryside. They belonged to the Marshall Methodist Church where she was the organist for many years. In 1957 she was president of the Fauquier County chapter of the American Cancer Society. She was an accomplished needlepointer. Her beautiful pieces were not only on display in her home but in the homes of family and friends. She stitched 16 of the kneelers that surrounded the altar at Bethany United Methodist Church in Houston as well as the kneeler in the chapel at Texas Children’s Hospital.
In 1982 Margaret and Charlie moved to The Hallmark where Margaret continued her music accompanying services in the Community Center and then as accompanist to the 80l Singers which she dearly loved.
The family will gather for a gravesite service at a later date.
