Margaret Jeneen Lemond passed away at home peacefully in her sleep on February 10, 2020 in Houston, Texas after a battle with breast cancer. She was born to Joe and Avis Christopher in Houston, Texas on August 08, 1970. She was a beautiful baby girl, weighing 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Margaret had a happy childhood spending lots of time with her loving parents, her big brother, and close friends. She enjoyed spending summers on the river in the city of Natchitoches, specifically the parishes of Cane River and Cloutierville, Louisiana with her grandparents and cousins.
Margaret graduated from M.B. Smiley High School in 1988. Immediately after high school, she spent 1 year at Sam Houston State University. Shortly after, she began working for various companies where she demonstrated excellent work ethic and was rewarded several promotions. In the year 2000, Margaret began her career in education and became employed by Houston Independent School District. In the year 2010, at the age of 40, while still raising children, Margaret went back to school and earned a bachelor’s degree from LeTourneau University in Interdisciplinary Studies. After five years working as an Afterschool Program Specialist for HISD, Margaret became employed for Humble Independent School District and began working as an Ace Grant Site Coordinator, which she truly enjoyed. Outside of being a program coordinator, she took on the role of being a mentor for many others beginning their careers in education. She was admired and respected, and she did it with style and grace.
Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends and was always a joy to be around. She also had an interest in sewing, gardening, cooking, shopping and completing various projects. Margaret was baptized, blessed and confirmed at an early age and as an adult, she was married at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. As she matured, her relationship with God also grew. Although, Margaret already had a strong relationship with God, when she was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2017, her relationship and faith in God only became stronger. She never let it define her. She never stopped believing. She never gave in to cancer, all the way until the end. She was a fighter and a strong woman of faith, which inspired us all.
Margaret is survived by her husband Cornell Lemond. Her children, Chelsea Geegan, Alana Potts, and Noah Lemond. Her parents, Joe and Avis Christopher. Her brother, Joseph Glenn Christopher and wife Carmen Christopher, and their son Joseph “Lil-Glenn” Christophe. Her grandchildren, Al “Michael” Riggs, Alani Riggs, and Jionni Seven Twyman.
