Margaret passed away Dec. 5, 2017 after the “Long Goodbye” of Alzheimer. Born Jan. 8, 1923 and raised in depression era Milwaukee, she knew extreme poverty growing up. In 1943 she joined the Navy, became a radio operator and on Oct. 23 married a young airman from Louisiana, Pascal (Pat) Painter. After a two week honeymoon, he was shipped to the South Pacific for two years. After the war, they settled in Milwaukee, and in 1951 relocated to Houston. Their marriage made an amazing partnership. They were founding members of St Augustine Catholic Parish. In 1976 they purchased a half interest in Cherokee Beach, a campground and tubing park in Tickfaw, LA. In 1990 they returned to Texas and after 69 years of marriage, Pat died in 2013. She was ahead of her time in many ways. She had a mastery of math techniques she taught her children that are only now being taught in schools. She had a knack for organization. As Secretary/Treasurer of Cherokee Beach Corporation she handled legal issues, accounting and taxes. She worked with the State officials and spoke before Louisiana State Legislature.
