Margarita is survived by her husband of 54 years, Elio Leon, her daughter Barbara Leon, her son Carlos Leon, daughter-in-law Julie Leon, grandsons Nicolas, Lucas, and Andrew Leon, siter Raquel Alvarez and brother-in-law Orlando Alvarez, and nephews Robert and Orlando Alvarez Jr. While in Cuba, Margarita attendend the American Domincan College where she earned a BS, and later attended Havana University where she studied pharmacy, until the Castro regime interupted her studies. Margarita married her soul mate, Elio Leon, in August 17, 1958 and began their family in Cuba. In 1967 they came to the US in an attempt to save their daughter's life by having Dr. Michael DeBakey perfom a difficult heart surgery. After the successful surgery, Elio and Margarita, decided to have another child, at which time Carlos was born. Margarita loved life...dancing, cooking, shopping, and being with her friends, but most of all she loved being with her family and especially her grandsons. Margarita also loved being at the beach with Elio...especially in their vacation home in Boynton Beach, FL, where they would spend the days at the beach and the nights at the Cuban/American Club dancing and dining, or playing dominos with friends until the early morning. When diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009, Margarita decided that she was gong to fight this evil till the end. She never feared cancer and did all she could to extend her life...always saying, "Jesus yo confio en ti"! All through surgery, radiation, and chemo, Margarita had her family by her side and never gave up the fight. She was a beautiful example of courage and faith for her family and for all who knew her. Margarita is now with her parents watching over her family here on earth, waiting for the day that we will all be reunited.
