Margo Arbury Chandler

Margo was born September 9, 1939, to Harvey Wilson Sewell Sr. and Georgia Frances George. She was born in the Heights and grew up in Houston, Texas. Margo attended Burbank High School, where she met the love of her life, Gerald “Jerry” Chandler, in the 9th grade. The two were married on January 15, 1957, and together they built a family of four children: Lesa, Glenndel, Gerald, and Terry.

Margo was introduced to Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized in January 1971, a decision that shaped the rest of her life. In 1975, Margo and her family moved to Corrigan, Texas, where she became part of the Corrigan Congregation.

In 1983, Jerry became ill, and for the next twelve years Margo lovingly cared for him. His condition required frequent trips to the Houston Medical Center, and Margo managed those trips while also maintaining their property, tending to livestock, holding down a job, and continuing to attend Christian meetings whenever she could. Despite the heavy load she carried, Margo still found joy in the ministry and remained spiritually active. Her devotion to Jerry never wavered, and in 1995, when he succumbed to his illness, Margo’s strength and faith carried her forward.

A short time later, Margo moved to Willis, Texas, where she lived with her son, Gerald Chandler II. Around 2001, she moved to the Humble area and attended the South Humble Congregation, remaining faithful until her death.

One of Margo’s cherished memories was time spent weekly with the sisters at Lydia Scheffer’s house studying the Bible. Margo affectionately called it “ladies’ night,” where they studied the Bible, ate dinner and enjoyed each-others company. Those evenings brought her deep joy, laughter, and spiritual strength. The friendships she formed there meant the world to her.

Margo’s life was rooted in love — for her family, her spiritual family, and everyone she welcomed into her circle. She loved the beach, often saying she should have been born in the Bahamas, where it was warm and sunny. As a lover of plants and flowers, Margo nurtured every growing thing —she planted vegetables just for the joy of watching them grow. Her compassion extended to all living creatures; she adored her pets and could not bear to see any animal go hungry without food. Her kindness was matched by a lighthearted sense of humor that made others feel at ease, often turning ordinary moments into shared laughter. She carried a quick wit and a playful sense of humor, always ready with a comment that made others laugh. Her kindness, warmth, and gentle heart touched everyone who knew her.

Margo will be missed greatly.

Margo is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald “Jerry” G. Chandler Sr.; her parents, Harvey Wilson Sewell Sr. and Georgia Frances George; Brothers Harvey “Bill” Sewell Jr. and Richard F. Sewell and other beloved family members who went before her.

She is survived by – her sister Exar Vallery, brother Joel Sewell, her children—Lesa Moody, Glenndel Cotie, Gerald G. Chandler II, and Terry Vinson—along with 18 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren, extended family, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
