Maria Herlinda (Linda) was born in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, and came from a family of 13 siblings, born to Ascension and Dominga Cedillo. She began working at the young age of six. In 1951, her family moved to Weslaco, Texas. Linda was a migrant worker who travelled the United States in accordance with the seasons to pick each crop. She has told stories about sitting in the back of trucks and looking at the stars as they drove from field to field. While she was working, she met Pantaleon Hernandez, who she married in 1959.
Linda welcomed six happy children into the world, who she dedicated her life to loving, teaching, nurturing, and supporting. Her strong work ethic and Catholic faith are a few of the many things she passed on to her children. The Hernandez Family home was filled with the sounds of mariachi music, the smell of coffee, and delicious home cooking. While doing her housework, she danced along to the radio and was always able to sing on-key. At any given opportunity, Linda was willing to sing. In her lifetime, Linda loved tending to her flower garden, and to this day, the rose bushes are still blooming in front of her house.
Maria Herlinda has gone on to join her husband, Pantaleon, and her sons Juan Javier (JJ) and Abel. She is survived by her children: Carmen (and her husband Raul) Gutierrez, Margaret Hernandez, Jaime (Jimmy, and his wife Tina) Hernandez, and José (Joe, and his wife Martha) Hernandez; as well as her grandchildren: Enrique (and his wife Darlene) Gutierrez, Samuel (Sam, and his wife Gabby) Gutierrez, and Monica Gutierrez & Richard Kurek; Laura (and her husband Andrew) Hernandez, and Sara Hernandez & Simon Campos; Joseph (and his wife Alyssa) Hernandez and Stephanie Hernandez; and great-grandchildren: Elise and Isaac Gutierrez; Ava and Lily Kurek; Elaina Hernandez, Ezra Hernandez, and Ezekiel Campos; Evelyn and Dominic Gutierrez.
