Maria Idalia Vela

She was born on February 11, 1931, in Copita, Texas, to Josefa Garcia and Mateo Gonzalez.

On June 18, 1949, Maria married the love of her life, Joe Vela, in San Diego, Texas. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, love, and unwavering devotion to their family.

Maria is lovingly remembered by her children: Oscar and his wife Lori, Sylvia Tamez, Mateo and his wife Tammy, Stella Villalovoz and her husband Johnny, and Sindy Spencer and her husband Jim. She was a proud grandmother of eight, great-grandmother of sixteen, and great-great-grandmother of two. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who brought her great joy.

She was preceded in death by her siblings Fabian, Ramon, Daniel, Carolina, and Jose. Maria is survived by her beloved siblings Maria and Eulogio.

A gifted quilter and crocheter, Maria found joy in creating warmth and beauty with her hands—leaving behind lovingly crafted pieces that will be cherished for generations. She also had a special love for gardening, especially tending to her vibrant flowers, which brightened her home and reflected her nurturing spirit.

Maria's legacy of kindness, creativity, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
