Marian Annette Calvert Murphree

Marian Annette Calvert Murphree, 84, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2017, after a long fought battle with cancer. She was born in Charlotte, Texas, on July 19, 1932, to the late Kathryn Gregory Mulholland and B. M. Garvin. She was a graduate of Brackenridge High School and attended San Antonio College. Marian was a long time member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and served as the past President of her local chapter and a CanCare volunteer since 1992. Marian’s professional career began as a service representative in the telephone industry then she moved to property management where she worked for many years. She had a gift for organization and enjoyed working as an Executive Secretary until the end of her career. Her church and family were the loves of her life. Marian was a dedicated 47 year member of St. Philip Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and enjoyed her Prayer Group and “Dinners for Eight”. She married Leland Murphree, Jr. in 1984, and they raised a blended family. She was a wonderful example of a Christian woman-faithfully going through tough times while still remaining kind, humble, giving, patient, and wise with all whom she came into contact. She is survived by her sons Kevin Calvert and wife Emily and Louis Calvert, step children Lee Ann Hawley and husband Robert Buttweiller and James Andrew Murphree. She was lovingly known as MeMe, Gandma, and Grandmother to her grandchildren Virginia Calvert Martin, Jennifer Calvert Vacek, Brittany Sanchez Ph.D., Julie Calvert Prieto, Nolan Calvert, and Brooke and Matthew Hawley, and her 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Murphree, Jr.; son, Keith Calvert; daughter, Kathryn Calvert Sanchez; and grandson, Ethan Calvert.

Memorial Services will be held on April 21, 2017, at 11:00 am at St. Philip Presbyterian Church, 4807 San Felipe, Houston, TX.
