Marie Aversano, 91 years old, who lived in Houston, Texas and was still a New Yorker at heart, died on Wednesday, the 16th of January 2019. Her death came quickly with the peace and dignity that she deserved.
Marie was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She graduated from the Brooklyn Hospital School of Nursing and was a Registered Nurse who worked continuously as a nurse until she retired at age 69. At her first assignment as a nurse, she met her future husband, Roland Aversano, as her patient. From 1969 to 1978, she and her family lived in Saudi Arabia. During that time period, she travelled all over the world and enjoyed caring for her Saudi female patients. From 1978 until the day of her passing, she lived in Houston, Texas. She continued with her love of travel, family, and friends. She had a lifelong passion for animals. She had a zest for life and an indomitable spirit.She lived a long and happy life that was filled with fun, adventure, and resilience.
Marie was predeceased by her parents Gaspare and Petra Pirrello and her brothers Dominic, Jimmy, and Anthony. She is survived by her husband Roland Aversano, daughter Donna Aversano and her spouse Debra Tabor, M.D., and her siblings Mildred Urso, Salvatore Pirrello, Tom Pirrello, and Joseph Pirrello along with their spouses. She is also survived by her much loved cats : Francesca, Katy, Devin, and Dora. Thanks to her personal trainers Kimberly Marler, Bobby Speer, Jennifer Klein, and Karen Browder for keeping her in shape and active for as long as possible. Marie also is quite thankful to her good friend and hairdresser Millie Cintron for all that she has done for her through the years and now as well. Words cannot express the gratitude to Marie’s caregiver and friend, Tammy George, who tirelessly and selflessly cared for her until she literally took her last breath and made dying at home possible in keeping with Marie’s wishes.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 25th of January, in the parlor and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. The recitation of the Holy Rosary will commence at half-past five o’clock in the parlor.
The funeral service will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Saturday, the 26th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.
The interment will follow the reception, via an escorted cortege, at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
