

Marie Theresa Goodie was born on December 21, 1924 in Houston,Texas to the late, Lydia and Joseph Goodie. She was the oldest of three children. Marie passed away on August 13, 2024 at the lifelong age of 99 years old.
Marie’s first marriage was to Clifton Lockhart and from that union they were blessed with Clifortine. After the untimely passing of her husband, she remarried to Elijah Southern on January 5, 1948 and remained married for 76 years, from that union they were blessed with four children: Christopher, Nathaniel, Alicia and Anthony. She was a very loving and nurturing mother that was dedicated to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Marie began her journey with St. Nicholas Catholic Church as an adolescent by attending and graduating from St. Nicholas Catholic School. After she joined the church, she became very active and a faithful member for over seventy years. During that time frame, she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Ladies Auxiliary, choir, assisted in the CCE program, participated in mass services as a lector reader, and often volunteered for various church functions.
Marie was very outgoing and loved visiting other church Revivals, taking church trips to the casino, zydeco dancing at church festivities, providing comfort and compassion when visiting the sick, cooking family meals, and was especially fond of socializing with others. Marie was very much loved by her family as well as her church family, and will truly be missed. She was everyone’s mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lydia Goodie; her late husband, Elijah Southern; her siblings, Edna Watson and John Goodie; her nephew, J.C. Hebert, Jr.; and her grandsons, Sean Page, Troy Broussard and Carey Williams.
She is survived by her loving children, Clifortine Page, Christopher Southern, Nathaniel Southern (Patsy), Alicia Green (Greg), Anthony Southern (Lisa); her grandchildren, Cisillie Southern, Anna Shields (Dion), Joshua Green, Tracy Broussard, Ednah (Broussard) Rushing, Brandon Trahan, Cherie Solomon and Gladys Frances; her great-grandchildren, Joanna Green, Josiah Green, Riley Shields, Ryann Shields, Renia Trahan, Amauri Trahan; and a host of relatives and close friends.
A visitation for Marie will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St Nicholas Catholic Church, 2508 Clay St, Houston, TX 77003. A rosary will occur Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM, 2508 Clay St, Houston, TX 77003. A funeral service will immediately follow from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 2508 Clay St, Houston, TX 77003. A committal will be held Saturday, August 24, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Paradise Cemetery North, 10401 W Montgomery Rd, Houston, TX 77088.
