Marilyn Stewart Brown

Marilyn Stewart Brown passed away on July 30, 2026, in Katy, Texas, at the age of 95. She was born on March 31, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Lela and Paul Stewart, married Harold Glenn Brown in 1951, and moved with her young family to Houston in 1962.

Marilyn graduated from Bellevue High School, where she was class salutatorian, and then attended the University of Pittsburgh. At Pitt, she became a proud member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She carried the friendships she made in Pittsburgh throughout her life, returning often over the years to visit the friends she had known since childhood.

For many years, Marilyn dedicated herself to family as a homemaker before later working in the insurance industry at Hilb, Rogal & Hamilton. A true people person, she found joy in connecting with others — through her work, her volunteer efforts at the polls, as the “jewelry lady” at the Memorial Assistance Ministries (MAM) resale store, or her many years spent volunteering at Rummel Creek Elementary School and later at Wolfe Elementary School, where she was honored as Volunteer of the Year.

Marilyn was a longtime member of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church. In her Memorial Glen neighborhood, she was affectionately known for her "treat drawer," always stocked with candy for neighbors and visitors — a reflection of her generous spirit and her lifelong love of chocolate, which she enjoyed right up until the end.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Glenn Brown; her parents, Lela and Paul Stewart; and her siblings, Carol Lee Stewart and Paul Wesley Stewart, Jr.

Marilyn is survived by her three daughters, Suzanne Brown (partner Nellie Sims) of Los Angeles, Holly Brown of Dallas, and Tracy Murski (husband Patrick) of Houston; her beloved grandchildren, Brooke and Blake Murski, and the entire Murski family.

The family sincerely thanks the memory care staff at Caydance Katy, hospice nurse Hannah, and previous caregiver Irma.

Marilyn will be remembered for her warmth, her love of connection, and the sweetness — quite literally — that she brought into the lives of everyone around her.

A memorial service celebrating Marilyn's life will be held at a later date.
