When my husband and I joined Oak Forest Chapter 1080 O.E.S. in 2000, Marilyn was one of the first members to welcome us. She was so friendly, it was like we had known her all our lives. I remember, best of all, her cooking. In our meeting nights she would bring green beans fresh out of her garden, cooked just like my grand mother used to. When we had a garage sale at the chapter Marilyn brought some home made jelly she had canned. We put a $5.00 price tag on each pint and they sold out first before anything else. Marilyn's health started to fail about the same time as my husband. All though she was not well she still sent us cards that lifted our spirits. My husband died in May 2012 and I went to Hillsboro, Tx. to take care of my 95 year old mother & was not able to be involved in the last year of her life, in a way that was a blessing for me. So now when I remember Marilyn it is only pleasant thoughts about what a wonderful person she was. Marilyn loved the Lord and showed it in everything she did and all the lives she touched.

Marilyn was such a kind & wonderful person. She would always either praise or compliment everyone she encountered. For me, of all things it was always my hair, for others it was how well they carried themselves or how clearly they spoke. Big things or small she saw and spoke only of the good in people. I do not believe she ever met a stranger and if she did they were no stranger long. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family now and the difficult times ahead. Know that, if you feel as if God is rubbing you against the hard rocks of life, he is. He is polishing all of his precious stones. And i know in my heart of hearts he has taken home a "Diamond" on this day. My Eastern Star sister you will be missed more than mere words can convey.

We have been fortunate to have known Marilyn for a number of years through our membership in the Order of the Eastern Star.  Marilyn has been a friend, a confident and a source of strength at times when it was needed most. She was always there with a wonderful smile even when she was hurting so. You could tell that she was struggling physically, but those bright eyes and the smile on her face made all those around her feel better. We will miss her in our lives, but she will live in our hearts always.

Mom was a wonderful, loving person, who enjoyed being with people.

She grew up on a farm and loved having her bare hands in the dirt.  Her yard, vegetable gardens, and flower beds were her pride and joy.  In fact, she was an inspiration to her grandson, Randy, who loves to work in his yard.  Vegetables were not confined to the large vegetable garden; they were also in the flower beds.  Working in the yard for hours on end led to lots of visits with people walking in the neighborhood.  She preferred gardening to housework.  She especially loved azaleas and roses.  She enjoyed the gardens at Bayou Bend.  Just a few weeks ago, she went to see the bluebonnets and had a great time.

Another one of her faqvorite hobbies was playing dominos and cards with family and her friends, Marie and Avis.  She especially enjoyed playing Bridge with James' daughters, Kimberly and Katelyn, because of their unusual bidding and table talk.  Mother was always ready for a card game or dominos.  Most Saturdays, she and Diane joined Charles and Ileane for dinner and cards.

Cooking was another one of her favorite acitivities.  Her specialty was pies.  Everyone knew she would bring pies to any family gathering.  We had our special favorites that she was always ready to cook.  Deb loved her lemon pie.  Steve, her son-in-law, enjoyed her chocolate pie.  It was a family tradition for her to make White Christmas, pecan, and pumpkin pies for Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Another Thanksgiving tradition was her giblet gravy.  Her special strawberry pie was a must on Valentine's Day and Easter.  Her granddaughter, Missy, always requested corn pones.  Mom was a great cook and known for it.  She was always clipping recipes out of the newspaper.  (Mom had a lifelong affair with scissors and the newspaper; we are finding clippings everywhere.)

A major part of Mother's life was her faith in God and serving in the church.  Even though she suffered hardships, her faith was unshakeable.  She was a strong believer in prayer and treasured her Bible.  She was involved in many activities in the church such as Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and Bible studies.  She enjoyed the Christmas programs held at Houston's First Baptist Church each year.

Mom loved and appreciated family including grandchildren,from Lenny, the eldest, to Amy,the youngest, currently living in Israel and great-grandchildren.  She was proud that Joshua, Kimberly, and Katelyn carried on her family tradition of military service.  Her father's musical excellence was carried on by several grandchildren including Brian who minored in music.

She treasured family gatherings so she could spend time with her nieces, nephews, and their families.  Her last major trip was to visit her brother's wife, Katy, and their family.  Even though Mom was in a wheelchair, she had a wonderful time and was treated like a queen.  We watched the Aggies win the Cotton Bowl and listened to Clay Boy, her neice's son, play many of the songs her brother used to play on his guitar.

Now, she is reunited with her husband, parents, and siblings.  May we all be together again one day.

Marilyn was my friend for so long that I can't remember when the friendship began.  Not only was Marilyn my friend but she was also a friend to all my children and my mother.  Thinking back, we have probably been friends for around 50 years.  

Special memories together could be big or small.  We did so many things together over the years.  Whether it was attending church, going to Sunday School parties, traveling to Hawaii, eating cabbage and cornbread (one of Marilyn's favorite dishes), eating her special cucumber sandwiches, our times were always special.  We spent many hours together playing cards, mainly Pennies from Heaven.  

One special memory that Marilyn and I always laughed about was when my grandson, Cody Gray, was very small and was not behaving properly. I told him he must behave or he was going to cause me to lose all my friends.  He said, "You will always have Marilyn."   He was right.  I have always had Marilyn for she was a lifelong friend.

It is hard to believe that we won't have Marilyn's smiling face in our lives anymore.  Marilyn was a friend to everyone that she met.  So many times when we had long hospital stays with my father, Tom and I and our family would always know that Marilyn was there for us in person and in prayer.  God has received a special angel.

This has left a great void in many lives, mine being one of them.  Marilyn was such a great friend. We did a lot of traveling together through Eastern Star.  She was always ready and willing to go to a meeting and we had so much fun doing it.  Getting to and from the meetings was the most  fun, even the time we realized we were headed in the wrong direction. We just got off the freeway, turned around and still made it in time for the dinner.  We laughed about that for years.  She was always there to lend a hand and help in any way.  Her favorite station was Martha and she was a beautiful Martha. She was also very active in church, because she loved her Lord. When leading the music in the senior department, I could always look out and see her smiling face. She loved the old hymns and would sing right along with everyone else.  I never found a hymn she did not know and love. She had the most beautiful smile and was always wearing a big one.  We had a lot of great adventures together and always had a ball, even if it was something as simple as renewing her drivers license.  That was one of our last adventures.  The walker came in really handy as they let us advance to the front of the line. She showed that beautiful smile for her picture. and signed with the most beautiful handwriting and perfectly in the little black box.  Then later we took two trips, with Diane, to see the blue bonnets.  We spent two Saturdays doing this. We got lost a few times, but even that was fun.  We asked a fireman for a good place to eat and we were not disappointed, excellent chicken fried steak.  She was the type person you could call at any time and you always felt you were the most important person at that time.  I never heard her complain, she was always pleasant. I know she is enjoying Heaven because she wanted to see her Jesus.  In the song, I Bowed On My Knees and Cried Holy, her favorite line was "I want to see Jesus for He's the one who died for me."  All I can say is: "Marilyn, Thanks for the memories."  Love Patsy

Marilyn (as she was known to Avis) and Mrs.  Radack (as she was known to Jeannie) was a life-long friend, and we will miss her tremendously.  Our friendship began in 1950 as neighbors and continued throughout the years.  Our special friend was such a tender-hearted, kind and loving lady, and she never failed to express her sincere love for our family.  A perfect example of this was, in spite of her health problems, she attended Jim's funeral in October 2012, and her presence meant more to us than words can convey.  She is gone from this earth but not forgotten, and we will forever have a special place in our hearts for her.
We extend our deepest sympathy to the family, and may God bless each of you and grant you comfort during this difficult time.

Dear Charles, Debbie, James, Diane & Family,
