Marion Wesley Turman, passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018 in Houston, TX at the age of 80. Marion was born in Easterly, TX on June 10, 1938 to Edward D. and Lottie Dewvall Turman. Marion retired as a Sergeant in the United States Army and United States Army Reserves. He served his country from 1958 to 1993 and was a recipient of a bronze medal, Army Good Conduct medal, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Ribbon, Bronze Star Ribbon, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, Army Reserves Achievement Ribbon, Combat Medical Badge, 3 years-Overseas award and Rank of Sergeant First Class with over 20 years of service. During his service, he worked as a machinist, medical specialist/medic, clinical specialist, and in the area of recruitment. Marion also volunteered for chemical experimentation during his patriotic service to the United States. He was stateside during his service in Denver, Virginia, New Jersey and Kansas as well as overseas in South Vietnam, France, Germany, and Thailand. During his time in the Army Reserves, he also worked in civilian employment in the occupations of machine operations, route sales, station management, Licensed Professional Nursing, clinical ward specialist, and public storage management.
Marion loved traveling and fishing from the west coast to the east coast of the United States. He especially loved traveling west of Denver, where he lived for 25 years. He met Monica Cho’ and was married for 15 years. His last trip with Monica brought them to Miami Florida to visit her sisters. They also continued to the Keys, where he and his wife Monica were able to visit the Hemingway House and were fascinated by the hundreds of cats that resided there.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Lottie Turman, his past wife Emma Pantoski, 5 brothers, Louis Turman, Edward Turman Jr., Jerry Turman, David Turman, Billy Gene Turman and a sister, Audrey Southern.
He is survived by his wife Monica Cho’ Turman, brother, Ernest Lee Turman and Sister-in-law Mary Lou of Elm Mott, TX, 3 sisters, Dorothy Schmidt Haas and brother in law, Karl Haas of Dallas, TX, Barbara Maza and brother-in-law, Orlando Maza of Metairie, LA, and Lillian Wilson of Houston, TX, step children, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Marion‘s services will be held on Friday, September 21st at Garden Oaks Funeral Home following an interment with full honors at the Houston National Cemetery.
