Mark left this earth all too soon, leaving behind so many people who loved him, including his parents, Joe and Lynn Brotherton, his brother Colby Brotherton, his nephew Drew Brotherton, his niece Lily Brotherton, his girlfriend Taren and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Mark was easy to love. He was smart, funny, and always quick with a quip. He was loved by so many, and was a great influence on the lives of many friends and relatives. His generosity towards people in need knew no bounds.
He was a 1993 graduate of Dulles High School in Sugar Land, Texas, where he was a proud member of the varsity baseball team, and where he played basketball through the tenth grade. He then attended Trinity University for one year on a baseball scholarship. Following an injury, he transferred to Baylor University, where he earned a degree in Finance.
As a child, Mark loved to play sports, especially when a ball was involved. He even ran on the cross-country team in high school, which led to several comedic moments. As an adult, he became an avid sports fan. He diligently followed the Texas Longhorns and all the Houston professional teams: the Texans, Astros, Rockets and, especially, the Dynamo. He loved the Dynamo and attended their games in the company of his many friends. With all his favorite teams, he exulted in every win and suffered through every loss. Sports were an outlet for him, and led to many fun interactions with his friends and family members.
His working career was spent as a software trainer, specializing in commodities trading. This led him to travel all over the world, teaching groups, both large and small, how to use those complex systems. He excelled at teaching, and it was his foremost ambition. He made many friends during his travels, and kept in active touch with them. He loved to travel, both within and outside the U.S., and to observe first-hand the various cultures he encountered. His passport reveals journeys to England, Mexico, Canada, Switzerland, Brazil, Germany, South Africa, the Netherlands, UAE, Belgium, Singapore, Indonesia, Ireland, the Philippines, Zambia, Turkey, India and Morocco. But he was a proud Texan, and he always came home.
Mark was a very special blessing that God gave to us – just not for as long as we had hoped. His passing has left a hole in our lives, and we shall miss him every day until we are finally reunited in Heaven.
God bless and keep you, Mark.
