Martha Kathryn Koska, 97, of Houston, Texas, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 19, 2014. Martha was born in Houston on November 13, 1916 and was the first of six daughters. Martha is survived by her son Ronald Page Koska (wife Donna) of Huntsville, daughter Darlene Kathryn Prince (husband Gary) of San Leon, grandsons Steven Lee Koska and Jeremy Paul Koska, great grandchildren Amanda Lee Koska and Jeremy Archer Koska, and niece Paula Cunningham (husband Butch). She is proceeded in death by her parents Dick and Mary Schafer Miller, her husband Odis Thomas Koska, and her sisters Mary L. Miller, Anne Julia Powell Worthington and Frances Lucy Lyles.
Martha lover her family, her work, and possessed an extraordinary vitality. She drove her new red Cadillac to work daily until the age of 92 and continued working in the family business until the age of 94. Adored by her family and friends, she was known for her fiery red hair, fashionably bejeweled clothing and immaculate grooming. Martha was a devotee of shopping at Kaplan's in the Heights and at Foley's each Saturday.
Kindhearted and generous, she and her sisters Mary L. and Anne faithfully provided regular care packages of food and clothing to those in need. Martha loved her church, Zion Lutheran in the Heights, where she was baptized, confirmed, married and was a lifelong member. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff at the Forum and of Hospice Compassus, who provided Martha with loving care.
Proverbs 31:25-31: She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home, 1200 West 34th Street, Houston, TX 77018. A service celebrating Martha's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, 3606 Beauchamp Street, Houston, TX 77009, followed by lunch at the church. Interment will take place at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church.
