Martin Cornejo Leon went to be with the Lord on June 1, 2019. He was born on November 5, 1963 in Cuaracurio, Michoacan, Mexico. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Marcos Jose and Maria Refugio Cornejo and three siblings, Eduarda, Hector, and Pedro. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Maria Martina Cornejo, four children: Orlando, Dora Angelica, Jose Martin, and Melissa, and nine siblings: Arturo, Angelina, Marcos II, Blandina, Sergio, Micaela, Maria, Esmeralda, and Miguel Angel. Martin worked with Davis Brothers Construction Company for many decades. He built a close relationship with company owners, Bob and Tom Davis, whom he met in 1979. Additionally, he participated in philanthropic work with the CYCLE program which provides bicycles to reward students for academic achievements. He also enjoyed helping Bob and Tom set up equipment for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Attending Tejano night was a definite highlight for him every year.

He was a devout Catholic and faithful member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. His faith and relationship with God allowed Martin to endure hardships he faced during the last month after his cancer diagnosis.

Martin was an avid fan of Houston sports teams and he enjoyed grilling for his family and friends. Since family and fellowship was extremely important to him, he would go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was a self less man, a natural born leader, and a man of great character. The Cornejo family will receive friends for visitation Wednesday, June 5th, from 5-8 PM with a rosary scheduled to begin at 7 PM in the Grand Chapel at Brookside Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 6th, at 10 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 501 Tidwell Road; Houston, TX 77022 followed by a burial at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway; Houston, TX 77039.

A selfless man, that was always there to give a helping hand. Your memory will never be forgotten. I thank the Lord for blessing me in having you as my father. You taught me many things in life. Many of those things have been life lessons. I will work hard to make you even more proud. Your legacy will go on. Until we meet again.

Leon and I have such fond memories of Martin and his sweet family. I was trying to think the other day how long I have known Martin. I remember him back from the Farb Days so that has to be 33 years or more. Martin was always there to help us or anyone else that needed help. It seemed that his services were most used when it came to Moving. I think Martin helped us move at least 4 times.

Martin was blessed with such a beautiful family who were as humble and polite as they come.

My heart is heavy with his passing. Please know that our prayers and thoughts will continue for the family. I will truly miss Martin and his contagious smile.

With deepest condolences,
Leon and Theresa Apostolo

Martin "amigo" you taught me so much about life. About family and why we do what we do for them. Your open heart and ready smile made everyone feel comfortable around you. The students you touched either behind the scenes helping with the bikes or directly through interaction with them inspired me. Thank you for all of your help over the years and especially for your friendship. I am sure you are with our Heavenly Father, your parents and Drew right now - enjoy. I will see you again one day.
