“The memory of the righteous is a blessing.” – Proverbs 10:7
Mr. Martin Oppong Kissi was born on January 9, 1940, in Obo Kwahu, Ghana, to Opanyin Samuel Oppong Kissi and Madame Elizabeth Ameyaw, both of blessed memory, now resting peacefully in the bosom of the Lord.
Young Martin began his education at Obo Kwahu Government Primary School, where he demonstrated discipline, curiosity, and a love for learning. He continued to Obo Government Middle School, completing his studies up to Standard 7. His strong educational foundation and determined spirit would guide the course of his life in remarkable ways.
After completing his schooling, Martin relocated to Accra, where he secured his first job with the Ghana Post Office. His dedication and excellent work ethic earned him respect among his colleagues. Later, he transitioned to the Military Records Office at Burma Camp, where his precision and professionalism further distinguished him.
During his time in Accra, Martin’s ambitions for higher education and broader horizons grew stronger. His dreams took a defining turn when he was awarded a scholarship to pursue college studies in the United States.
In 1968, Mr. Kissi embarked on a life-changing journey, leaving the shores of Ghana for Chicago, Illinois. Upon his arrival, he secured employment at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, balancing his work with his academic pursuits. Through perseverance and determination, he successfully earned his bachelor’s degree.
During his years in Chicago, he was blessed with two children — Sylvester and Roberta — who became the joy of his life.
In the early 1980s, Mr. Kissi relocated to Houston, Texas, where he continued his academic journey and achieved his master’s degree at Texas Southern University. It was during this period that he welcomed his youngest daughter, Yaa Kissi.
Shortly thereafter, he met his loving wife, Auntie Joan, affectionately known as Madam Makola, and her daughter, Connie. Together, they built a beautiful and peaceful home filled with love, laughter, and unity — a home that reflected his gentle yet strong spirit.
Throughout his years in Texas, Mr. Kissi remained a hardworking, devoted, and purpose-driven man. He returned to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Houston and later shared his knowledge and compassion as a high school teacher. His professional life was defined by integrity, discipline, and a passion for uplifting others.
Beyond his career, he was deeply committed to his family and community. Through great effort and sacrifice, he helped migrate several of his siblings to the United States, ensuring they too could access better opportunities.
Those who knew Mr. Kissi describe him as charismatic, generous, caring, loving, and deeply kind-hearted. He had a warm smile that could light up a room and a giving spirit that touched everyone he met.
On Thursday, October 16, 2025, the Almighty God called His faithful servant home to glory at the age of 85. He leaves behind a loving wife, children, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Mr. Martin Kwame Asante Kissi’s life was a testament to faith, resilience, and love — an inspiring story of a man who lived fully, gave generously, and loved deeply. His legacy continues to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
