He was born to Gustav Herbert Bamsch and Lydia Mitschke on July 28th, 1937 in Serbin, Texas and was baptized August 1st, 1937 a St. Paul’s Lutheran in Serbin by Pastor Hermann Schmidt. He grew up in Serbin, Texas where he worked on his parent’s farm raising maze, corn, cotton, peanuts, cattle and milking the dairy cows. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and was confirmed on April 6, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by Pastor Arthur Arndt who dedicated Marvin’s memory verse as Titus 2, 11-12.
At age 18, Marvin left the small town farming community of Serbin and moved to the big city of Houston to start his career in manufacturing that lasted decades. At night he went to trade school to hone his skills as a machinist and welder. During the day he held numerous jobs as a machinist, moving from employer to employer to learn all he could at each. In 1967, he started his own manufacturing business in their garage with the help of an upstart entrepreneur that needed someone to manufacture his product. This upstart entrepreneur provided the funds through a loan. Throughout the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s Marvin and Mildred’s company manufactured products for the oil drilling industry. In 1976, Marvin and Mildred purchased a ranch near Giddings, Texas, not too far from where he was raised. Here he started the weekend hobby of ranching and raising cattle. In 2002 he sold his manufacturing business to his son which provided for his and Mildred’s retirement. Marvin was a “tinkerer”, He tinkered with just about everything. From mechanical repair, to automotive repair, to tractor repair, to ranching, to construction, to music and whatever else he could get his hands on. He always said he is a “Jack of all trades but master of none”.
Marvin’s hobbies included enjoying music, ranching, fishing and cooking BBQ. He was best known for his gentle nature, he never met a person he didn’t want to talk to, his love for joking and bantering back and forth, playing his accordion for anyone that would listen. His favorite things to do included spending time with his family and friends, ranching and tractors… lots and lots of tractors.
Marvin was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Lois Bamsch, his parents Gustav Herbert Bamsch and Lydia Mitschke, his brothers Paul Albert Bamsch and Charles Bamsch, and his sister Bernelle (Bamsch) Arldt.
