She was born in Houston, Texas on November 9, 1927 to parents, Burnetta and Thomas Skains, Sr. Throughout her life she was known for her independence,creativity, and love of family.
Mary Louise enjoyed family/friend gatherings and loved decorating her home. In her younger years she excelled at dancing and bowling. She loved caring for her “grandbird,” Pepe.
She is survived by daughters, Diana Walker and husband, Charles White; and Carol Jackson and husband, Jack. Grandchildren: Sheila Herron, Heath Walker, Troy Walker, and Shawna Matherne. She had nine great grandchildren, and eight great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by siblings, Eugenia Shaw, James Skains, and Robert Skains.
Mary Louise is preceded in death by her dear husband of 50 years, Hubert C. Barker. Granddaughter, Tammy Hart. Parents, Burnetta and Thomas Skains, Sr. and brother, Thomas Skains, Jr.
Funeral arrangements will be held at American Heritage Funeral Home at 10710 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, Texas 77038. Funeral service will be on Thursday, February 5 at 11:30 a.m. Visitation is February 4. Family members will be from 3 to 4 p.m. The public is welcome from 4 to 8 p.m.
Mary Louise will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
