Mary Katherine Burkwall

Mary Katherine Burkwall passed away peacefully on January 28, 2023. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 59 years, Morris Burkwall, Jr. as well as her brother Dr. James Bayfield (Janet). She is also survived by her daughters, Karen Johnson (Brett) and Katherine Ciscon (Larry) and son John Burkwall (Pam). Mary also leaves behind her grandchildren Jonathan, Nathan and Kristin.

Born to Edward and Esther Bayfield in Manhattan Kansas, Mary was interested in music, art and science. She received her Masters in Microbiology from Iowa State University, married and then worked as a virologist until she had children. She encouraged her kids to follow their interests and was proud of their accomplishments. She also loved photography, gardening and designing and producing Christian-based greeting cards that featured her ink drawings or photographs along with scripture. The card line was named Inkspirations and was created for God’s glory and people’s encouragement. She was also active in the various churches that they attended, singing in choir, playing bells, and participating in women’s ministry events.

A memorial service will be held on February 5, 2023 at 3:30 pm at Eagles Trace Retirement Center in Houston, TX in the Creative Arts Room.
