She was born in Plantersville, TX on May 6, 1936. She was the 7th of 13 children – 11 boys and 2 girls. Being the oldest daughter, she was a great help in caring for her younger siblings. She often said to them, “I took care of you!” She moved to Houston after graduating from Magnolia High School and met Charles Dettling. They married on February 4, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Plantersville and resided in Houston. She worked at American General until the birth of her daughter, Vivian. She also loved her many cats that she cared for over the years. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church for 50 years. She loved playing dominoes with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Dettling and daughter, Vivian Dettling. She is also preceded in death by her parents Anton & Mary Mock, and brothers Anton Mock, Eugene Mock, Joseph Mock, James Mock, Edward Mock, and Lawrence Mock. She is survived by siblings: Charles Mock and wife Martha, Ben Mock and wife Ginny, Walter Mock and wife Connie, Agnes Winkler, Johnny Mock, Freddy Mock and wife Diane, and sisters-in-law Rose Mock and Loretta Mock plus numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank her caregiver, Lorraine George, for the loving care she provided for many years. We will all miss Mary dearly.
Visitation services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Pat H. Foley & Company, 1200 W. 34th St., Houston. The funeral Mass will be on Thursday, April 29, at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 215 E. 10th St., Houston followed by burial at 11:30 a.m. at Hollywood Cemetery, 3506 N. Main, Houston. After the burial, lunch will be served in the church hall at All Saints.
