Mary came to Houston from Ireland in 1960 to attend Dominican College. There she received a B.S. in Nursing, and soon met her future husband Dennis at a St Anne’s young adult club dance. They were married on January 14, 1967 at All Saints Catholic Church.
After working at St Joseph’s Hospital and later for a private physician, she joined St. Ambrose Catholic School in 1977 as the school nurse. After 37 years, she retired from St. Ambrose in 2014, having left an impact on thousands of kids with her gentle hand and open door. She loved her work.
Mary also loved gardening, antiquing with the “girls” in the Texas Hill Country, but most of all spending time with her four grandchildren. Mary also loved animals. Birds, squirrels, stray cats and other visitors were always welcomed (and fed) in her backyard.
Mary is preceded in death by her brother Michael Barry, her mother Eileen Barry and her dear father James Barry.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years Dennis L. Dufilho, her son David Dufilho and his wife Yira Dufilho, her daughter Karen Dufilho and her husband Dan Rosen, her youngest son James Dufilho, and four grandchildren: Avery, Carter, Gracie, and Tessa.
