Mary Ella Machart Joe

July 28, 1964October 27, 2018

Mary Ella Machart Joe, passed peacefully in her sleep early morning on Saturday, October 27, 2018. Mary, a native Houstonian was the youngest of her four siblings. She was a lively, compassionate individual, who was always seeking an adventure.

In her younger years, she loved music, playing dress up in her big sisters’ clothes, and although the smallest of the bunch enjoyed causing chaos between her older siblings. Angie, Tammy, and Mary regularly ganged up on their big brother Tony, but nevertheless he was always their protector. Mary met the love of her life early on, Geary Joe, who she shared a great love for music and adventure with. They married soon after and had three daughters, Chantle, Jeannetta, and Nikole. As a mother she was always guiding her daughters to be independent, to think for themselves, and to always stick up for those less fortunate.

She was very crafty and enjoyed working on costumes and do it yourself projects with her girls, although most of the projects went on unfinished. There are many memories of unplanned trips to the beach in the middle of the night, and junk food binges for all her kids, nephews and nieces. She was the mother who was outside on the street playing with her daughters and the neighborhood kids, until she somehow injured herself and retreated. After the passing of her brother, Tony, in 1993, her father, Jerry in 1996, and her mother Elsie in 1999, she faced some hard times, but still found ways to bring out the light and joy in those around her. She was dedicated to Christ and the church, even amongst any setbacks she had, she would always find her way back.

Mary enjoyed more than anything being a grandmother, and often begged to host sleepovers, in which she would obviously let the kids stay up all night watching movies, eating junk food, and making as much noise as possible.

The thing about Mary was although she was chaotic, unpredictable, and free spirited, she had such an amazing heart and was the most lovable, caring and fun person, to all she encountered. To know her is to love her.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 34 years of marriage, Geary Alan Joe; parents Jerry and Elsie Machart; and brother, Anthony Machart.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Chantle Joe and husband Travis Wethington, Jeannetta Warden and husband Jonathan, Nikole Cruz and Steven; sisters, Tamera Johnson and Angela Machart Farmakakis; Grandchildren, Jonathan Warden Jr., Jalyse Warden, Ethan Cruz, Avery Cruz, and Jovanni Chala.
