

Mary was born to Alfred Augustus and Margaret Elizabeth Harrison Foote September 10, 1917 in San Antonio. After graduation from Rice University with a degree in chemistry she became a researcher at a medical lab in Houston until the soldiers returned from WWII. As a dedicated teacher in the HISD for 33 years, she enjoyed learning new techniques of mathematics instruction. She was loved by many of her students. After retirement, she and her husband of 65 years, John Randle Goyen, Sr. travelled the 49 continental states and all the Provinces of Canada. They also enjoyed summers in Libby, Montana. Currently a member of the Garden Oaks Baptist Church, she was a devout Christian her entire life.
She is survived by her five children: Kathy Welch and husband David of Truckee, California; John Goyen and wife Patricia of Houston; William Goyen and wife Pam of Hayden Lake, Idaho; Marie Borucki and husband Len of Mesa, Arizona; and Carole Goyen of Oakland, California; 6 grandsons: Hudson, Doug, Steven, and Greg Goyen; Gabriel Burnham, and Cyrus Baseghi; 7 great grandsons and 1 great granddaughter. She was also loved by her nieces Charlotte Parker Schenk and Virginia Parker, and many other relatives, friends, and neighbors in Texas and Montana. Her husband; her sister, Kathryn Foote Parker; and her brother, Alfred Amos "Sonny" Foote predeceased her.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm on Friday, May 13 at Pat H. Foley Funeral Home. The visitation will be from 10-11am, Saturday, May 14 followed by a funeral service at the chapel at 11am. Interment will be at the Historic Hollywood Cemetery, 3506 North Main Street.
