Mary Kathryn (“Mary Kate”) Jacobe, age 8, a fifth generation Houstonian, passed away on Friday, the 4th of July 2025 in the tragic flooding that has affected so many. Mary Kate was born on the 27th of October 2016, in Houston. While her life was cut tragically short, she was a blessing to all who were fortunate to know her.
Mary Kate was tiny but mighty. She was born early and spent time in the NICU at Texas Children's Hospital, where the nurses were quick to point out, “this little one is feisty.” Her “feistiness” was perfectly counterbalanced by her incredible sweetness from that point through the wonderful eight years she graced this world.
She was beautiful beyond words with soft hazel eyes, flowing long brunette hair, tiny frame and one-of-a-kind voice that seemed to sit in a register all her own. While she looked like the perfect model of angelic grace, her personality broke all molds. She never lost a battle of wits. She loved deeply. She charmed effortlessly.
Mary Kate had an ambitious vision for her future and planned to grow up to be a singer, actress, artist, and doctor amongst an ever-evolving list of lofty goals. While the world will never know what could have been, she undoubtedly would have continued to be the incredible, kind and confident person that was evident from the day she was born.
Mary Kate attended St. Martin’s Episcopal preschool and then the Fay School from kindergarten through second grade. She was a fiercely loyal friend and always went above and beyond to stand up for any of her peers who needed support. She was her big brother, Russel’s, best friend and his biggest fan. She was immeasurably confident beyond her years, marching to her own drum and transcending any social barriers to befriend everyone she knew.
Mary Kate was the cherished daughter of Samantha Jordan Jacobe and Christopher Craig Jacobe and the beloved sister of Russel Lee Jacobe. As the treasured baby of our large family she is also survived by a host of devoted family members including grandmother Brenda Craig Jacobe, grandfather Richard Jordan, Uncle Dr. Russel Lee Jacobe, III and wife Heidi, uncle Michael Copeman Jacobe and wife Mindy, aunt Janice Jacobe Davis and husband Clark, uncle Jon Paul Jordan and wife Tamara, uncle Justin Jordan and wife Maggie, along with devoted cousins Peyton Jacobe, Reid Jacobe, Sydney Jacobe, Jack Jacobe, Jacobe Davis, Clark “Cope” Davis, Cornelia “Cliff” Davis, J.P.
